The Skies We’re Under

Nurse, author and Director of Born at the Right Time, Rachel Wright talks to fellow parents of people with disabilities and others in their community. With the power of story telling, laughter, swearing and useful information they create solace in knowing the warts and all truth of this off piste version of parenting. Whether a well seasoned parent, newbie, one of many practitioners supporting families or simply someone wanting to peak over the fence - you’re welcome to listen in. We are better together, whatever Skies We’re Under.

Dr. Mazal Tasgal joined Rachel and Sarah back in May 2024 and talked all things communication. They dared to go off the ‘middle of the road’ pathways to explore the ways to nurture and develop communication, building on our innate ability to communicate with our child, right from the start.
You can learn more about Mazal’s work here, and also the wonderful charity who supported her family at the start of their journey at special effect.
Rachel and Sarah also share their To-Do lists (even their secret ones!) and Rachel finally figures out what Number 5 actually meant – (it was Turtle Braces).

The final episode in our Parenting Differently recast series takes us back to season one episode thirteen as Lucy, Rachel and Sarah talk about feeling as though we are living in a goldfish bowl. The constant swimming as a parent carer is hallmarked by the watchful eye of professionals assessing and scrutinising our every move.
But what is the impact of this version of support? How does observation change our lives, our relationships and levels of stress?
