The Skies We’re Under

Nurse, author and Director of Born at the Right Time, Rachel Wright talks to fellow parents of people with disabilities and others in their community. With the power of story telling, laughter, swearing and useful information they create solace in knowing the warts and all truth of this off piste version of parenting. Whether a well seasoned parent, newbie, one of many practitioners supporting families or simply someone wanting to peak over the fence - you’re welcome to listen in. We are better together, whatever Skies We’re Under.

Research is suggesting the action and inaction of services can cause trauma to parents and caregivers. Systems generated trauma is an emerging term in academia but we suspect many parent carers and practitioners will understand what it means - be able to describe a time they have experienced or witnessed it.
In a world where trauma informed practice is heralded as the right way to work, systems and organisations need to also be aware that their own policies, procedures, actions and inactions may in fact be the very source and cause of trauma for parent carers.
The Skies We’re Under podcast is delighted to welcome expert Dr Ana Aiello. A researcher and academic who specialises in parent carer blame and is also a sibling. She walks us gently through;
institutionalised parent carer blame
its impact it has on Fabricated Induced Illness (FII) guidance
emerging research on systems generated trauma
We hear some stark truths which Lucy and Rachel discuss alongside a general rant about the potential for someone to do a poo just as you are rushing out the door (husband/toddler - delete as appropriate)
